This section of the site, formerly destined to become "Smoking The Good Stuff With Louis" will now become a column in which Terrence or Dave (Dave in this case), whomever feels like updating it first, will take some current issue in the world and bitch about it for a few paragraphs, hopefully with the end result of a) producing something interesting to read, and b) relieve the massive amounts of frustration that rack our minds so terribly.

The inaugural Relevant Rant is in regards to one of my least favorite people- President elect George W. Bush. Oh, how my blood fills with bile every time I hear that man's name....

Never before has moving to Canada or Costa Rica seemed like such a delightful idea. With a monkey and walking ball of choleterol to soon move into our nation's capitol and lead the USA in the world for the next 4 years, I'm rather worried. As a liberal and an ardent environmentalist, I cringe at the thought of what may happen during Kadafe's, er Bush's reign of terror.

Bush's foreign policy, or rather his complete lack thereof will do wonders for killing the economy, stagnating foreign peace negotiations, and virtually wiping out foreign aid to developing countries. I can almost guarantee a return to isolationism at a time when international relations are more important than they have ever been before.

To make matters worse, the politicians he has selected so far to fill his cabinet positions seem to be either halfwits or biggoted losers. Really, how good of a politician can Ashcroft be if he lost reelection to a dead man? There's something about that which I think should be taken as an indicator of his general inability.

For those of us concerned with environmental policy, the next four years should prove to be a period of either massive protest and movement by environmental groups or four years characterized by devastating misuse of public lands and appalling environmental degradation. Of course, Bush isn't entirely bad in this area. After all, he only wants to cut *some* virgin forest in Alaska to yield an inconsequential amount of oil.

Finally, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't democracy supposed to be about the people having say in the political proceedings of the nation? I was always taught that it was. Funny, then, that while Gore got the majority of the popular vote, he was still denied the Presidency. But wait, it all makes sense- it's the electoral college that really counts. Who gives a rat's ass if the public is misrepresented in its desires as long as an antiquated institution is served. Not me! Personally, I love the feeling that my opinion as an active and voting citizen is entirely irrelevant. There's nothing I love more than a vile miscarriage of national political policy.

Monkey in a man suit

Fun fact- whenever a United States President has been assassinated, certain stars have been in a certain alignment. Those stars will be in that particular alignment for a good portion of Bush's Presidential term.
